BIGOT ALERT: Dr. Robert Jeffress - Pastor of First Baptist Church of Dallas

The definition we use for defining a bigot - "a prejudiced person who is intolerant of opinions, lifestyles, or identities differing from his or her own." Dr. Robert Jeffress fits into the category of a bigot. Here's a quote from the news story by Grommer Jeffers Jr. in the Dallas Morning News:

"Mitt Romney is a Mormon, and don't let anybody tell you otherwise," Dr. Jeffress said in a sermon on Sept. 30. "Even though he talks about Jesus as his Lord and savior, he is not a Christian. Mormonism is not Christianity. Mormonism is a cult."

Saying that Mormonism isn't Christian is one thing. It's another to go ahead and say that someone is not Christian simply because they are Mormon.

"I have conservative friends who are saying, well, he believes in Jesus, we believe in Jesus, let's just hold hands and sing kumbaya," he said. "It doesn't work that way. If a person is supporting Romney, that's fine. But don't confuse him with being a Christian."

Shame on your Dr. Jeffers for spreading hate and intolerance in our country. As a minister, your followers should expect more from you. Anyone who would flat out eliminate a candidate based on his religious beliefs is a bigot.

Good for you for posting this! I know many Mormons and they are nothing but kind toward other religions. And they are DEFINITELY Christian. By saying what he did Pastor Jeffress showed how ignorant he is!

This is not Mr. Jerrfess first offence and I am sure it will not be his last. I am from Wichita Falls where he was the pastor at FBC. Until he left there...unannounced to go to the Dallas FBC. Good riddance if you ask me. Here is the other story from 2000.

Dr. Jeffress, senior pastor at the 8,400-member church, told The News last year that, "We are not saying that these books should not be available at Barnes & Noble. What we are saying is that public money should not be used to purchase books that support a lifestyle that is objectionable to a large number of citizens."
The books – Heather Has Two Mommies and Daddy's Roommate – were written to help children of gay and lesbian parents cope with being raised in nontraditional circumstances. One is about a lesbian couple seeking artificial insemination to have a child, and the other is about a boy who moves into a home with his father and his father's boyfriend.
"The books encourage and promote sodomy," Dr. Jeffress said recently. The rest of the story can be found at http://www.angelfire.com/weird/andtotallybizzare/

Great synopsis of Pastor Robert Jeffress's comments in a public forum. Just a sign of a weak moral stance to start 'taking swings' using old ignorant arguments. Everyone already knows that the Mormonism is a nickname for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, a church based on the beliefs of Jesus Christ. Sadly, i doubt Jesus Christ would consider himself a 'Christian' by Pastor Robert Jeffress's definitions. I'm sure his comments haven't swayed anyone to far in any direction. In fact, I'm sure his comments have drummed up more interest in the church and it's beliefs. Mormon's believe like every other Christian that because of Jesus Christ we are saved from the bonds of death through his resurrection. EVERYONE who has lived and believes in Jesus Christ is SAVED. Pastor Robert Jeffress's ignorance comes to play in understanding that his definition of 'saved' stops there and the Mormon definition continues. Mormon's believe beyond the simplistic understanding of Pastor Robert Jeffress's definition of being saved, there are additional degrees of glory that can be obtained... all within the realms of heaven. A message to Pastor Robert Jeffress, it is good to be sure you understand what your are speaking of before flapping your bigoted lips in a public forum.

Thanks for exposing one of the most notorious bigots of our time, Robert Jeffress. Paid preachers have always united against the Mormon church which has a lay clergy and consequently its assets do not go to support lavish lifestyles of paid preachers

I CAN CLEARLY SEE THAT NONE OF YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT TYPE OF MAN DR. ROBERT JEFFRESS IS. HE IS NOT SPEAKING HIS OPINIONS BUT THE TRUE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST. THE FACT IS, MORMON'S ARE NOT OF CHRISTIAN BELIEF BUT OF A MAN WHO CLAIM'S TO HAVE RECIEVED SCRIPTURES REVIELED ONLY TO HIM. THE MORMON BIBLE IS A BOOK OF FALSE TEACHINGS AND HAVE ADDED TO THE WORD OF GOD AND ACCORDING TO REVELATION'S 22:18-19 WILL FACE THE WRATH OF GOD. I ALSO HAD MY RESERVATIONS ABOUT DR. JEFFRESS UNTIL I GOT TO KNOW HIM AND I CAN HONESTLY SAY HE HATES NOBODY BUT HE WILL NOT APOLOGIZE FOR TEACHING THE WORD OF GOD REGARDLESS IF YOU LIKE IT OR NOT. HE HAS PREACHED AGAINST HOMOSEXUALITY BECAUSE THE BIBLE TEACHES THIS.PERIOD. I HAD A CLOSE FRIENDSHIP WITH A MORMON FAMILY AND YES THEY ARE GOOD PEOPLE BUT THEY BELIEF THAT THE ONLY PEOPLE THAT WILL BE IN HEAVEN IS MORMON'S.THEY HAVE TRIED TO EXPLAIN THERE BELIEFS TO ME AND AS I TOLD THEM THERE BELIFS ARE BASED ON A FALSE TEACHING AND I PROVED MY STATEMENT TO THEM ACCORDING TO THE WORD OF GOD AND WE HAVE NOT SPOKEN SINCE.MORMON'S SEEM TO PICK AND CHOOSE WHAT THEY WANT TO BELIEF IN AND ACCORDING TO DR. JEFFRESS TEACHING OF THE BIBLE YOU BELIVE ALL OF IT OR NONE OF IT.DR. JEFFRESS IS THE MOST KNOWLEDGEABLE PERSON OF THE SRIPTURES I KNOW AND YOU SHOULD ALL BE ASHAMED OF THE COMMENTS YOU HAVE MADE ABOUT A MAN NONE OF YOU KNOW. IF YOU ASK ME YOU ARE THE TRUE BIGOT'S.

It is interesting to me that many professed Christians and Christian churches today seem to feel they have a corner on the market of who can be Christian. It is as if they assume some authority to determine who can be considered "Christian" depending on whether they "go with the flow" of all the other Christian churches. Normally, a simple professed belief in Christ is good enough to be Christian. From what I've learned, for many Christian churches a simple professed belief in Christ and asking for Him to enter your heart is good enough to get you saved!--let alone to be considered a Christian. Since when is it Christian to deny another the opportunity to claim Christianity as well? The whole thing seems a bit ironic to me, and actually very unchristian.
AHENRY - No need to shout! And thanks for proving my point...do you not see how hypocritical and unchristlike you and your Pastor sound? You just called all the people you "commented to" bigots, without knowing any of them. "He who is without sin cast the first stone..." is I think how it goes...maybe you should start actually trying to apply the things you claim to believe, as a christian. Same goes for your pastor.
